The Quiet American

The Quiet American proves that elegant and intelligent filmmaking can be emotionally powerful. Michael Caine plays Thomas Fowler, a British journalist in 1950s Vietnam with a lovely Vietnamese mistress named Phuong (Do Thi Hai Yen) and a jaded view of the political strife teeming around him. He befriends a seemingly innocuous American named Alden Pyle (Brendan Fraser), who falls in love with Phuong--and slowly, Pyle's real purpose in Vietnam becomes revealed. Fowler finds that, to hold on to the carefully balanced life he's created for himself, he must make choices he's long avoided.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Forced aboard the ship of the most feared pirate ever, Jack doesn't know whom to fear more - Blackbeard (Ian McShane) or the woman from his past.

The Next Three Days

The powerful presence of Russell Crowe and the skillful writing and directing of Paul Haggis (Crash) give The Next Three Days an emotional heft to match its taut suspense. Schoolteacher John Brennan (Crowe) is stunned when his wife Laura (Elizabeth Banks, W.) is sentenced to life imprisonment for murder. As he watches her emotional decline behind bars, he becomes determined to break her out of prison--and The Next Three Days tracks his meticulous efforts, including wrong turns that threaten to capsize everything.

Moneyball

It's amazing that Moneyball makes baseball statistics seem fascinating--but that's because it's not really a movie about numbers, and it's not really a movie about baseball, either. It's about what drives people to take risks--in this instance, Billy Beane (played by Brad Pitt), general manager of the Oakland A's, who's just had his best players poached by teams that can afford to pay a lot more.

Little Big Soldier

While action legend Jackie Chan's career continues to wane in the United States, he has in recent years enjoyed a revival in his native Hong Kong, and the period-action comedy Little Big Soldier is perhaps the best of those efforts. Set during China's Era of Warring States (roughly 475-221 BC), the story centers on Chan as a farmer-turned-soldier who survives a bloody battle with a valuable prize--a wounded general (Wang Leehom) from the opposing army.

The Legend Of The Shadowless Sword

Master swordplay, epic battles and stunning martial arts action kick into high gear in this fantasical adventure set in ancient Korea. 927 A.D. There, he becomes part of an eclectic community of students and develops a crush on his teacher (Julia Roberts). Now this simple guy will discover that when you think everything worth having has passed you by, you just might find your reason to live.

The King's Speech

Michael Oher (Quinton Aaron) knows little about family. Less about football. What the homeless teen knows are the streets and projects of Memphis. And the Tuohys have found something just as life-changing: a beloved new son and brother. This real-life story of family and of Michael's growth into a blue-chip football star will have you cheering with its mix of gridiron action and heartwarming emotion.
