DiMeola Plays Piazzolla is a collection of tracks written by Astor Piazzolla that Al DiMeola recorded for various projects from 1990 through 1996. "Last Tango For Astor" is an all-original track DiMeola penned in honor of the great Argentinean tango composer. The bandoneon (played by Dino Saluzzi on six cuts) compliments DiMeola's meticulous fret work, lending an authentic element and elegance to the music. Several tracks are primarily centered around DiMeola's solo guitar (with light percussion), while guitarist Christopher Covington joins DiMeola on "Cafe 1930", "Night Club", "Tango Suite Part I", "Tango Suite Part III" and "Last Tango For Astor". The gathering of Piazzolla compositions from the World Sinfonia albums (along with the two new cuts), allows the listener to experience this wonderful, passionate music in an uninterrupted fashion.
