Guy Ritchie (Snatch, RocknRolla) attempts to reinvent one of the world's most iconic literary figures as an action hero in this brawny, visually arresting period adventure. Robert Downey Jr. is an intriguing choice for the Great Detective, and if he occasionally murmurs his lines a pitch or two out of hearing range, his trademark bristling energy and off-kilter humor do much to sell Ritchie's notion of Holmes. Wong Jing's parody of the novel Duke of Mount Deer is a funny movie with some amazing wire fu action sequences. He has to steal it from an evil General played by Elvis Tsui. Chow fakes being a eunuch so that he can steal the book, but instead he accidentally becomes good friends with the Emperor. The group that sent Chow on the mission wants to kill the Emperor. Why am I trying to explain the story?
