Schecter USA Custom Sunset Extreme
SchecterSix Guitars, One Paint Job, Zero Chance You'll See Another. Sun Valley, California turns out some of the most serious American-built guitars nobody talks about enough, and this Sunset Extreme FR makes a compelling argument for why that should change. Lime, black, pink and yellow swirl across every inch of the body in fluid curves that appear to move while you're standing still. Photographs flatten the effect. In person, the finish genuinely doesn't hold still.
But visual theater means nothing if the instrument underneath can't back it up. Alder body shaped into Schecter's Sunset contour delivers the balanced, focused foundation that made alder a studio favorite decades ago, while the Contoured Ultra Access joint solves the traditional bolt-on problem - upper fret access that actually works instead of fighting your hand at the 19th fret.
That five-piece maple/walnut laminate neck combines maple's snap with walnut's density and warmth, and the carbon fiber reinforcement handles what multi-laminate construction can't: resistance to twisting, warping, and the neck dive that plagues lighter builds. Richlite fingerboard offers ebony-like feel with far better environmental stability, and that 16-inch radius stays flat enough for aggressive bending without fretting out anywhere on the 25.5-inch scale.
The Apocalypse humbuckers pair Alnico V with Ceramic VIII magnets - an unusual combination delivering explosive high-gain saturation that cleans up into glassy single-coil territory through the coil-split. That versatility isn't typical for pickups designed around high-output performance, which is what makes this pairing worth paying attention to.
Floyd Rose USA with R10 locking nut and Gotoh locking tuners handle everything from subtle vibrato to full dive-bomb abuse and come back to pitch. American-made tremolo hardware costs more for exactly this reason.
One of six anywhere. Do the math on your odds.
