Synopsis
Old flames have a way of reappearing at the worst possible moment, usually with a heap of trouble in tow. Jay Sandrich's "Seems Like Old Times," from an original screenplay by Neil Simon, rises above what might otherwise have been a forgettable romantic triangle. Goldie Hawn plays Glenda Parks, a kindhearted Los Angeles defense lawyer with a soft spot for down-on-their-luck clients, several of whom she's hired to work around the house. She's married to Ira (Charles Grodin), a straight-laced district attorney with his eye on becoming the state's attorney general. Their already hectic life turns even more chaotic when Glenda's free-spirited ex-husband, Nick (Chevy Chase), a writer, is kidnapped by a pair of bumbling robbers, forced to help them hold up a bank and ends up a wanted man. He turns to the woman he's never gotten over, and Glenda hides him right under her husband's nose while trying to clear his name, as Ira struggles to keep his sanity and his career intact. It's a slapstick romance that often hits and misses, but Simon's dialogue saves the day and provides wonderful moments among the three stars. It also boasts a winning supporting cast, including Robert Guillaume as the family's butler, and half a dozen drooling, rambunctious dogs.
