Synopsis
Even the most rigid convictions tend to soften once life gets a chance to work on them. Ernst Lubitsch's "Ninotchka" stars Greta Garbo as Nina Ivanovna "Ninotchka" Yakushova, a stern Soviet envoy dispatched to Paris to take over from three bumbling comrades trying to sell jewels seized during the Revolution. Standing in her way is the debonair Count Leon d'Algout (Melvyn Douglas), who's working to recover the gems for their former owner, Grand Duchess Swana (Ina Claire). Ninotchka has no time for romance, but Leon's charms and the pleasures of Paris prove hard to resist. As the ads promised back in 1939, Garbo laughs - and you will too.
