Idiocracy (2006)

The future belongs to whoever keeps learning - and this film imagines what happens when nobody bothers. Mike Judge's "Idiocracy" stars Luke Wilson as Joe Bauers, an Army librarian so perfectly average that he's picked for a top-secret hibernation experiment in 2005, along with a woman named Rita (Maya Rudolph). The plan calls for them to sleep for one year, but when the program is shut down and forgotten, they don't wake up until 2505. Joe and Rita emerge into a society where generations of dumbing down have left humanity barely able to function - crops are watered with sports drinks, and President Camacho (Terry Crews) is a former wrestler and porn star. Suddenly, Joe is the smartest man alive. It may feel closer than 500 years away.
