Synopsis
Discovering who you truly are can change everything, especially when you learn you're far more special than anyone ever let you believe. Chris Columbus' "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," adapted by Steve Kloves from J.K. Rowling's first novel, stars Daniel Radcliffe as Harry, an orphan forced to sleep in a cupboard under the stairs by his cruel aunt and uncle. On his 11th birthday, after a flood of mysterious letters, he learns from the gentle giant Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) that he's a wizard, and that his parents were killed by the dark wizard Voldemort, leaving him with a lightning-bolt scar. Shopping for his first wand in magical Diagon Alley and boarding the Hogwarts Express from Platform 9¾, Harry heads to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where the Sorting Hat places him in Gryffindor House. He befriends Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson), clashes with snobbish Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) and discovers a natural talent for Quidditch, a sport played on flying broomsticks. Soon the trio uncovers a plot to steal a stone that grants immortality, hidden behind a trapdoor guarded by a three-headed dog, leading to a life-size game of wizard's chess and a dangerous showdown. Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman and Richard Harris co-star, and John Williams' magical score launched a beloved theme.
